Sandy Pokaia (Te Kaiwhakarite / Community Advisor)Te Kaiwhakarite/ Community Advisor Ko Tainui ko Mataatua nga waka Ko Raukawa ko Whakatohea nga iwi Ko Sandy Pokaia ahau Sandy began working for Community Waikato in 2005. She considers it a privilege to work for an organisation that values the Treaty of Waitangi as a founding document and acknowledges the unique place that Maori, as tangata whenua, hold in this land. The development of her Te Kaiwhakarite position is one way that Community Waikato actively supports its commitment to the treaty. Sandy provides support for and works alongside Maori organisations, assisting them with governance, planning, management, coordination of services, networking, employment and other issues that they face. Sandy has worked within the community and health sectors for a number of years. Currently she is part way through the Unitec Post-Graduate Diploma in Not-For-Profit Management. She was raised in Melville, Hamilton, and has Whakatohea and Raukawa affiliations. Sandy's husband is from Ngaruawahia. She and her husband, Tame, are raising their grand daughter, Hina. |
